Good Morning Peeps…

The birds are singing outside… and I am anxious to get out the door and get some work done outside… want to get my asparagus field mowed down so we can actually see the asparagus shoots as they come up… massive amount of tumble weeds stuck in the grass there… hoping this is a good idea… if not… then it will be a good bit of exercise… I have a walk behind dr brush mower and that field is between 1/3 and ½ half acre in size…

If we get some rain out of the storms that are supposed to be coming in tonight tomorrow and the next day… there should be asparagus shoots the next morning… or so…

The baby ducks and geese are doing great… gonna shift their living quarters around probably the day after tomorrow…

Hoping to get some more of the old plastic cleared out that is buried around my greenhouse… the wind ripped it off… the plan is to recover the greenhouse frame in a more solid material and grow year round… fish and plant produce…

I talked to the adult protective services case worker that went to my cousin & aunt’s place yesterday. I am hopeful my cousin will use this contact as a lifeline rather than retreating into self pity and anger… The case worker said at the end of the visit that she asked about programs… so hopefully she will give it a go… I know this is difficult for her… and she is … well probably is… certainly was yesterday… very pissed at me… hit me full on with the you are less than dirt attitude yesterday… not that … this particular attitude is anything new… she has dumped that all over me since I was a child… well this time I was wearing a raincoat so to speak. A very good friend was here when she started in on the speaker phone and she realized someone else was here and cut off her spew… not before he exposed herself however.

This may sound petty on my part… and perhaps it is… but I am really glad he was here… another person heard this crap… often before it was just dumped all over me in secret… then things go on as if nothing had happened… with the you do it for me attitude… while I am trying to cope with that… you are trash… garbage… less than rotted feces… message that was bouncing around in my heart and mind trying to take root… you hear it enough… it tends to take root… and it takes time and work to counter it… no not to her… for myself…

Well this time … yes the attitude was there… but there is no… well maybe I imagined that… or that could not have happened… or no she was not that nasty… boiling down into disbelief of what I’d actually experienced… because another person heard it as well… and I have not been over reacting or imagining her attitude.

I have compassion for them… my aunt is trapped in the situation with full on Parkinson’s… my cousin… well… she has issues… and I am hoping she will make use of this opportunity to get some help… but it is up to her… I am done being her pissing post. She is going to have to take responsibility for her own situation… or not … it is up to her… for my own well being I have to step back… this is a toxic relationship in the form it is currently in.

I am so thankful there are other eyes on the situation… I could not in good conscience step away without that… the case worker suggested that I continue to check in on them periodically… once a week… or maybe every couple of weeks… I had been checking on them daily… taking them groceries… etc… I did not say that for a… Oh you did so good… or oh you poor dear … response… that is not the point… what I thought was helping… or rather I was trying to help… and rather having it actually be a help… it turned into a vampire enabling mess… It is past time to step back… or perhaps it is simply time to step back… hand the situation off to other that are not so close to it… and give myself permission to live… grow… heal… and not take responsibility for another’s walk in this life… it is her path.. it is up to her if she just sits in the mud or gets up and walks… as it is with each of us…

When a hand is offered… reach out and take a hold of the hand… and make an effort… no matter how small… even if it is just opening your eyes… no matter how hard it is… just breathe…

On the flip side… sometimes it is necessary for your own journey to step away from those that choose to sit in the mud…even when you see the hillside sliding down towards them… I know that sounds harsh… well to me it sounds harsh… but if they refuse to breathe… you cannot breathe for them… it is not your fault… it is their choice… it is their journey…

May you walk in peace…

Steel posts... Garden... Choices...

Good Morning Peeps…

The day started out with a fog here today… looks like the sun is trying to burn it’s way through…

I actually did get through part of my list yesterday… I drove in 7 steel posts… and planted onions and beets. I planted the onions and beets in circles around the little trees I had already planted… thinking I am going to encircle the beets with the onion sets I have left… then do carrots after that… I am trying to do some companion planting… onions… beets… carrots… are supposed to complement each other… may put a circle of flowers too…

There is no technical reason for the circles… except I thought… hmmmm think I’ll try this… and no they are not perfect circles… they just are what they are… kinda like me… hehehe…

The baby ducks and geese are doing good… really growing fast… I will post some more pics in the coming days… when I talk to the baby geese… they coming running to me… what can I say… they make me smile… I love watching them eat the field grass I’ve been harvesting and putting in for them… yes they have mash too… flock raiser… and of course water… water… and more water…. Both the baby ducks and geese are going to need more space soon…

I got garden shop happy yesterday… there are now 6 raspberries… 3 dwarf apple trees… 12 strawberries… lavender… Yukon gold potatoes… 4 black berries … 6 rosa rugosa… 2 kinds of sweet potatoes… 2 rhubarb… I do believe I am going to be digging in the dirt… I am going to sort out where I am planting … and keep working on the garden area… I have some field fencing I could make into supports for the berries … hmmm… I hope it all grows… but if not… then at least I tried… ya know…

On a bright note… I noticed little leaves just starting to come out on the native plums I planted earlier… the mulberries look good… but I cannot really tell what is happening with them yet… I had set out 8 native plums and 8 mulberries… these were dormant when set out.

Oh yeah I almost forgot.. there are 3 varieties of heritage corn coming… an aztec black… a red… they called it bloody something… and a hopi blue…

Need to look more into the companion planting stuff… from what I understand … raspberries and potatoes do not get along… they don’t like peppers either… and something else… I’ll have to look again… you know I used to have such a wonderful memory… used to be all I had to do was look at something and I had it… aw well… getting stressed about it is not going to make it better… perhaps planting… and weeding… and digging in the dirt will help to balance and focus… memories and triggers were sure boiling to the surface yesterday as I dug my circles in the ground… placed the onion sets and spread the beet seed… I’ve always thought beet seed looked so cool…

Planted some Detroit dark red beets… some that are yellow inside… and some that are white inside with red rings… I have this vision in my minds eye of what it will look like when the onions are up and growing and the beet tops are in full foliage… then carrots … and so on… should look … kinda cool… or a total bloody mess… I don’t know… but I am doing it anyway…

Yesterday I ranged from at peace… to all out war inside… I stopped what I was doing and just looked out across the range… it was so beautiful… I could hear the meadowlarks… the wind was just a breeze… rather than a howling banshee… it was calm and so peaceful… and here was this war blasting through my mind… emotions storming… ied’s going off as I dug another row… or pounded in another steel post… lifting the driver up and slamming it down driving the posts in to the desired depth… listening to the rhythm of the driver hitting the posts… massive sense of accomplishment as I drove each one in… there was a time not so long ago that my body was so compromised that I could not lift that driver…

Flipped from accomplishment… to missing my husband… and back again… swing swing swing… whoo hoo…

There was a thought forming… a realization so to speak… forming throughout the day and I went back and forth from appreciating the beauty of the rangeland… to absolute chaos and internal war… searing pain… and total rage… It does not matter where you are… in the middle of a war zone… literally… the largest bustling city on the planet (yes I have lived in the cities) … or out on the rangeland… you can be swept up in war… or walking in peace in any surroundings… that peace… is internal… it is a choice…

Sounds simple… oh let us just make a choice and it’s all done… wouldn’t that be grand… yeah… does not work that way… it is a moment by moment choice… a process… kind of like forgiving someone… whether it is yourself or someone else… it is not an emotion… it is a choice… does not change the circumstances… does not invalidate what happened … or validate what happened… does not make good into bad… or bad into good… what happened … happened… it just is what it is… there is no changing that…

What the choice is about is how we process… how we deal with whatever… it is about choosing to let go… choosing internal peace… choosing to set yourself free…

Sounds so simple… in some ways I suppose it is… just breathe… ok I can do that… take another breath… feel the air fill your lungs… focus on the sensation… and let it go… exhale…

One breath… one step at a time…

May you walk in peace…

Sunday on the high plains

Good Morning Peeps…
It is looking cloudy … foggy this morning… but not real heavy… good morning for working outside… when I finish my coffee that is what I am going to do…
Go drive some steel fence posts… truthfully what I feel like doing is crawling into a hot tub of water and soaking until the muscle and joint pain subsides… however if I do that the day will have heated up by the time I get outside… so the soak will just have to wait until after …
Check on the baby geese and ducks…open up the door so fresh air can circulate through when it warms up…
Water the trees … and plant some onions and other garden veggies…
Feed the poms… and freshen all the waters…
Thinking that is a full day…
Maybe some reading this afternoon… and a soak…
mmmmm… having a sweet treat… an organic medjool date with a hot cup of dark black French roast coffee…
Later taters…

Happy May Day... New beginnings... Baby Ducks & Geese...

Good Morning Peeps…

April is done and gone… May is just beginning… I am choosing to close the door on April and all the turmoil that boiled through it. Stepping forward into this new month… choosing to believe that today is a good day… Happy May Day…

The sun is shining… yay… the wind is not howling… the post office in Torrington gave me a call this morning… yup that’s right… my baby ducks and geese are here… I did get them set up in the whelping house with straw… water food… heat lamps… dipped all their beaks to get them started in the water… pulled some grass for them… snapped a couple of pics… watching them check out their new surroundings made my heart happy… a couple of the baby ducks were floating in their water pan when I came down to the house…

Ground some coffee… cooked breakfast… Gunsmoke playing in the background… hey what can I say… when I was a little girl my mom and I watched it together… after David retired he and I used to watch it together… who knows perhaps they are both in here watching with me…

Watched the Ring last night… it was supposed to be scary… I suppose it was… but it just looked like a hurt angry spirit acting out to me. It is actually a pretty good movie.

After the past few days I was sure glad to see the sun shining this morning. The tulips along the east fence are looking happy… and the yellow ones that were just buds are close to blooming…

I was really hit and miss with Oxycise and tai-cheng in April… my goal is to get it in at least 5 days a week in May. Want to get my garden in this month as well… and get that surround fence up… the porch sanded… and the mowing caught up… need to keep an eye on that asparagus and hopefully get some picked and frozen for the year… … bit more on the May list… photos this first week… photos of me for trainer… scrub out freezers… read… yes there are a couple of books I’ve been trying to read… I can not see to read the print if I have been upset… so staying active… focusing my energy… painting my way through stressers/triggers will help me to get the books read that I want to dive into…

It is not such an issue with the computer or kindle because I can change the text size… however the books I want to read are print on paper… just is what it is…

want to order a few turkeys for the place… and the freezer…. And possibly some guineas… might do some butcher chickens too… and keep a rooster or 2 … I do like the sound of a crowing rooster first thing in the morning

Think I’ll just do straight run (mixture of boys and girls) and let things sort themselves out… I may change my mind… just kinda thinking…

I do know one thing for sure… when I get up and out first thing in the morning I certainly feel better… I was out and about checking the temps in the brooder before I went after the baby ducks and geese… while I was out I fed the big dogs… checked the feed on all the poms… fed the buff ducks and checked the feed for the muscovies… and fed the chickens…

I heard the rooster pheasant calling this morning while I was out and about…

I did not see my hen Muscovy this morning… I am hoping she is ok … just setting on a nest.

Putting todays list together… take vitamins, firewood in… Oxycise/tai-cheng… wash sheets… check on baby birds… drive some posts … plant some onion sets… unless that wind picks up too much… log food intake… order dog and cat food… pay bills… get those shirts into tubs… and fold up the laundry I’ve been staring at… truthfully I would like to just curl up in a hot tub of water… I am a walking ache this morning… hope the Oxycise and tai-cheng loosens me up and gets rid of some pain…

First up… vitamins… and another cup of coffee…
